Happy Ukes – Learn, Play and Laugh

Happiness Is Ukulele Shaped

Do you have an unhappy ukulele? Is it hidden away in a cupboard, in an attic, or under a bed…untuned, unplucked, unloved?

Well, we at Happy Ukes can help! We can give you and your ukulele a new lease of life together.

As uke relationship counsellors we can help you discover – or even rediscover – the joys of playing music with others and generally having a right good time.

And as you and your uke enjoy yourselves you can also give others a boost by helping raise funds for charities.

In the last three years alone Happy Ukes – the longest running ukulele club in the Dundee area – has raised well over £10, 000 for various charities, including Tayside Children with Cancer and Leukaemia (TCCL) and Maggie’s Dundee.

The club recently handed over two cheques for £1000 each to the Brae Riding for the Disabled and the Ninewells Hospital Ward 22 Endowment Fund to help support the valuable work of both charities.

We’re already raising funds for 2022 and we will continue supporting last years’ charities because a certain worldwide event got in the way of our efforts last time.

The club is open to adult ukuleleists (don’t look it up in a dictionary, it’s not there!) of all abilities who want to give their uke a good run out without incurring the wrath of their loved ones.

Complete beginners are very welcome and we offer free, informal workshops to anyone who would like a hand getting started.

We play a wide variety of music – from rock and country to folk and pop and even some blues.

We do like to take our preparations seriously, but most of all we like to have some fun.

Remember a uke is not just for Christmas, or a birthday or anniversary – it’s for life.

Let Us Entertain You

Happy Ukes band members raise funds for our chosen charities by giving concerts at a variety of venues and events during the year.

We’ve performed Dundee Flower and Food Festival, the Marie Curie Big Tea Party, Brechin Music Festival and many other live events and parties. We regularly perform at sheltered housing complexes and we must be doing something right, because we usually get invited back to venues to give repeat concerts.

Every single penny we raise at events goes to the charities we’ve chosen. We don’t take any expenses whatsoever when we give concerts – although we do love a sandwich, cake and cup of tea when we play.

If your interested in us playing a concert for you – and in the process supporting our charities – please get in touch.

  1. Thank you for remembering David in your New Year resume.
I miss him so very much and I know you will all do too.
I watch avidly for the reports of your various gigs and will hopefully make it along sometime soon to the Admiral.
Might even bring my fiddle if it’s allowed.

    Colin.
